My goal is to cross the finish line at Central Park having contributed to the preservation efforts of my favorite animals, elephants. When I was young, my family traveled to Thailand to stay with mahouts and their elephants, all of whom had been rescued from poachers or fell sick to illness. It was here that I began to appreciate the intelligence and kind nature of elephants and the risk posed to them from poaching and habitat loss.

Last year I was reminded of the need to help conservation efforts toward Elephants during a trip to South Africa. While at a reserve I spent a number of days following elephants, there was one particular elephant who won my heart. He was big and missing part of his trunk, likely due to a snare. We sat and watched him for a while as he showed his resilience. This injury hadn’t stopped him, he instead used his legs to help create mouthfuls and assist in getting the carefully prepared bites to his mouth.

It is for elephants like him that I am taking on this challenge. Elephants deserve a safe space and a long-lasting future.

Please help me to make the world a little safer for these incredible animals.
